Thank you to everyone who attended the Critical Race Theory Teach-In. We are still over the moon and scurrying through our notes and re-watching the YouTube video to glean even more tidbits from Dr. P. The amount of knowledge that Dr. P graced us with is overwhelming to say the least. Dr. P called everyone in attendance to reflect on how we relate to the world in small ways such as digging deep to articulate why we are triggered by certain actions, language or images and in large ways by not re-negging at work when it comes to standing up for others when actions, language or images are used to degrade someone who is unable speak up for themselves. If you have not watched Dr. P's Critical Race Theory Teach In, we implore you to click the image, grab a notepad and pen and get ready to learn about yourself and how you can help change the world we live in.

On behalf of the Community Solidarity Response Network of Toledo:

Happy Pride to our entire LGBTQ+ community. We are so thankful for all of the work that has gone into the fight towards justice and equality.

The most vocal fight for acceptance and recognition can be traced back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, where the iconic Marsha P. Johnson (a black trans woman) said that enough was enough and cried out against the oppressiveness of homophobia and hate. From that moment the fight for liberation became universal.

Throughout the past 51 years members of the LGBTQ+ community have fought hard to accomplish acceptance in all walks of life, from politicians, to inventors, to designers, dancers, authors, teachers, doctors, friends and family. The impact that the community has had on the world is unbelievable to say the least. Bayard Rustin and his work with the civil rights movement helped to push Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dream forward, Audre Lourdes and James Baldwin wove powerful tales of the queer Black experience, Laverne Cox made transwomen a part of prime time television, Alvin Ailey brought the heart and soul of African dance to the stage, Barbara Jordan made history as the first elected African American woman to the Texas Senate, Will Ninja, the “Grandfather of Vogue” made the girls gag on the ballroom floor, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago’s first openly LGBTQ Mayor has kept as as real as you possibly could on all the social media’s, Billy Porter took Broadway by storm (collected all of the things and is still knocking them dead), the ENTIRE cast of POSE has given us a story for the ages… and don’t get us started on the LGBTQ community from thre Harlen Renaissace: Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Counter Cullen to name a few. The Black LGBTQ community is so rich with raw talent it’s enough to make you jealous!

But this month isn’t about jealousy, it’s about love and appreciation. It’s about the ability to live a life so unapologetic, so passionate, so inspiring that it could only be accomplished by individuals who knew the sacrifice of peace they were giving up by living their truth.

To our Black LGBTQ+ community, we at the Community Solidarity Response Network want you to know that we know that “life ain’t been no crystal stair,” that you have had to not only grow up learning to love skin that others deemed as less than, but you also had to create a world in which you may not have seen many glowing examples of loving who you choose to love without a need for explanation. So, whomever you choose to love, Trust and Believe that the Community Solidarity Response Network recognizes your love in all its glorious shapes and colors. Your melanated skin is perfection, you are wonderfully made and your life matters.

Now, the Community Solidarity never does anything the easy way, when we love it’s revolutionary and when we celebrate its iconic. For the entire month of Pride, every Sunday we are handing the keys over to some iconic and revolutionary members of our local LGBTQ+ community. Check in every Sunday for content that comes from the community that is being celebrated. In our Guiding Principles, CSRN is all about letting the members of the communities that are directly affected tell their own stories Unfiltered and Uncompromising. Join us as we get ready to read/watch/listen to members of our black LGBTQ+ community live their best lives on our platform!

We cannot wait to see what they have to say and we hope everyone has an amazing Pride month!!!

Happy Pride,
Community Solidarity Response Network of Toledo
